Quezon City was named for two consecutive years as the country’s most competitive highly urbanized city in the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) 2017.
The National Competitiveness Council gives recognition to different local government units in the country that show exemplary performance in the four pillars of the competitiveness index: Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, Infrastructure, and Resiliency.
Quezon City also topped other highly urbanized cities in the country in terms of infrastructure and was ranked number two in pillars of economic dynamism, government efficiency, and resiliency.
The city of Manila, the country’s capital ranked second in competitiveness among highly urbanized cities in the country.
It also topped other cities in the pillar of government efficiency.
Davao City was recognized as the third most competitive highly urbanized city in the country this year.
Davao City was also named as the most resilient highly urbanized city of the country.
The awarding was held during the 2017 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index Awards, in conjunction with the 5th Regional Competitiveness Summit at the Philippine International Convention Center on August 16.
Makati City was dislodged in the top three in the CMCI 2017 from being in the top spot in the CMCI in 2014.
The cities and municipalities competitiveness index measures a local government unit’s competitiveness and presents an opportunity for local governments to better understand their performance against global standards.
The CMCI 2017 ranked the provinces of Rizal, South Cotabato, and Cavite, respectively, as the country’s most competitive provinces.
It was also noted that cities of Tacloban and Zamboanga are the most improved cities in the CMCI 2017, followed by Taguig City and Pasay City, respectively.
