On November 12, 2023, Chriztel Renae Aceveda, a 12-year-old Filipina, accompanied by her parents, delivered a historic performance on “Croatia’s Got Talent.” Her Golden Buzzer moment, the first in the show’s history to be awarded by the audience, marked a significant milestone. Living in Sveti Martin na Muri, Chriztel’s deep appreciation for local culture shone brightly in her audition.
A Cultural Celebration Through Song
In traditional folk attire, Chriztel performed “Dej mi, Bože, joči sokolove,” a Međimurje song, in fluent Croatian. Her performance, blending talent and cultural integration, led to an unprecedented audience-awarded Golden Buzzer, sending her directly to the semi-finals.
Embracing a New Culture
Chriztel’s move from the Philippines to Croatia three years ago marked a period of significant cultural adaptation. Initially unfamiliar with the Croatian language and customs, she found a supportive community in Sveti Martin na Muri. Her friends played a crucial role in helping her adjust, fostering her quick adaptation to the new environment.

Her passion for traditional Međimurje songs began in a music class, leading to her growing love for singing. Chriztel’s talent has been recognized at various events, including winning the Međimurje Festival with her original song “Ako mi te uzmu.” Despite early challenges with the Croatian language, she rapidly improved with the support of her school friends.

Chriztel’s musical journey is supported by her family, schoolteachers, and mentors from ‘HKUU Sveti Martin na Muri.’ She is currently developing her skills at the Varaždin Music School, exploring a range of musical genres.
